Get Rid Of The Advertisements

The Empty Cup
Once Upon A Time...

Christmas shoppers bustling to and fro,
Humming Christmas music as they go.
Salvation Army kettles hanging there.
Is there no change to spare?

Pretty paper, pretty ribbons
No one seems to care...

I saw him on the corner
Down on Fifth and Grand.
An empty tin cup by his side,
Too cold to raise his hand.

Tears welled up in my eyes.
Droplets froze upon my cheek.
The lump in my throat
Made it difficult to speak.

I got him the help he needed,
And his life was turned around.
I can't begin to convey
The happiness that I found.

I get a Christmas card each year
From this man and his family.
Remembering never makes me weary.
It's what giving means to me...
