Fade

What is it in us, that makes us treasure,
family, friends, things that gave pleasure,
as if forgetting, somehow might smother
what was? Things like lessons my mother
taught us. She, our personal life guide book.
Wise words conveyed with that all knowing look,
As we chased in the rain searching rainbows gold,
Our fantasies ran wild; she didn't scold.
But days of chasing rainbows no longer mine.
In final eclipse, they'll no longer shine.
Many times I struggle to find some way,
to retain memories fading away.
When minutes are tethered with thinning twines,
beyond muted time a new rainbow shines.

Every morning I awaken to find,
the joy of living with questions entwined?
