My Mother's Arms

Love was shining in the stars for us
While the spirit of the wind carried you to me in the night,
Taking you far beyond the darkness
Into the beauty of moons’ light.

It is here…in the moonlight
From whence your tenderness came,
And from heavens soft whispers
That the stars sang your name.

Butterflies danced like tiny ballerinas
Their dance of love, for you and me,
While the piano keys played, ‘Love is a Rainbow’
Filling my heart with the sweetest of memories.

Time proceeded and a bit of tears escape my eyes
As I remembered the golden fields of summer and the sweet lilies of spring,
So full of beauty and grace they were
And sharing them with you, mom, meant absolutely everything.

Yes, my heart is still filled with love for you
My mother and my friend,
For in my eyes you are forever beautiful
And I long to be held in your loving arms again.

Then, with the lilacs’ soft touch you surprised me
In my watercolor dreams last night,
And gentle as a breeze you kissed my cheek...holding me close to you...
Close, in your loving arms till morning light.

When I awoke you were kissing me softly
So softly on my cheek goodbye,
That the tears welled up inside my eyes
But I did not wish to cry.

You stroked my hair as you held me close
I could feel your essence mingle with my own,
“My darling daughter, I love you and am so proud of you
And promise you, that beneath my wings, you will never walk alone.”

Those were your parting words to me
As the wind carried you away,
And I was left feeling loved and blessed
By what you shared with me last night on Mother’s Day.

I smile as I realize…that of all the gifts
God could have given to you and me,
Was to place us in each other’s arms again
Filling our hearts with this precious memory.
