Get Rid Of The Advertisements

In Solitude

In solitude, my memory
drifts back into the past,
to treasured, happy moments
and dreams, that didn't last.
To a simple, one room school house
in a forest of Ghost Gum
and the way the teacher taught us,
then frowned on childish fun.

We'd shinny up the flag pole
or climb an ancient pine,
but as for doing homework,
there was never any time.
We'd chop the wood for mother
and feed the cockatoo,
then fish for yabbies in the dam,
where the mud stuck like glue.

I remembered holidays by the sea,
building castles in the sand,
collecting sea shells from the shore,
while holding father's hand.
And the time we went to Luna Park
with the fast and fancy rides,
the music of the merry-go-round
and the gleaming slippery slides.

We collected many wild flowers
on exciting long bush trips,
then came home with Wattles
and lots of fresh Gum Tips.
Courting, in the moonlight,
watching the new sun rise,
cheering for our football teams
while eating Aussie meat pies.

Kisses in the star light
caused night birds happy song
calling out the joyous news
that now, two hearts belong.
Love among the Gum Trees,
happiness, to always last,
dreaming now, in solitude
of the future not the past.

Foot note:
Yabbies are like a prawn.
Ghost Gum is an Aussie tree.
Wattles are an Aussie tree.
Gum Tips are like little bark hats
that form on the branches from
a Aussie Gum Tree.
