Tempest Silenced

As a tempest stirs the sea by sheer force,
A thought of a certain tryst did the same,
Once upon a time when love took such course,
A time and place: love at first sight in name.

When today's sunset flamed across the beach,
It’s rosy hues lit up a thought of you,
I thought it gone, beyond a yearning reach,
But there it was, like a storm out of the blue.

The bitter taste of truth, I know it well,
Ten times over painful: love wasn’t true,
I shrink from hurtful things I long to tell,
For in my heart no love remains for you.

The tide is out, the sun has set, I’ve moved on,
For love that’s untrue is a love too long.
