Java Mornings

Java Mornings

A silhouette blends with a golden horizon as the sun travels westward
to the lands I won't explore except in travel magazines and tv screens
not today, not today........

I turn to familiar pages of peace, seeking evening dreams of happiness
with a stretch and yawn and anticipating my next creamy java morning
i drift away, drift away...

tiny voices, constant echoes like the ol' whippoorwills theme of the night
pitiful cries, beating bleeding hearts, protruding bellies and haunting eyes
of the fray, the fray

skipping past channels of sandy scorched fields, wakened by the alarm
i greet a morning forecast of foggy dawn, i'm reminded of their ashen sky
i look away, look away....

I turn to pages of peace and seek daily prospects of shared happiness
a stretch and yawn, i anticipate the delight of my creamy java morning
and i stay , i stay.....
,
but songbirds, with voices like the ol' whippoorwills theme of the night
pitiful cries, protruding bellies, road map eyes, beating bleeding hearts
and i pray, i pray...

remind me that in lands not far away a mama holds in swaddling clothes
the poor babes with silent tears, caught in the gathering shadows of day
and don't play,don't play...

I turn to pages of peace and seek daily prospects and a portion of happiness
my eyes wide open, detach me Lord................
give us this day, this day...
