Her Song of Peace

We had been marching for a long while that day
With our peace signs held up high,
Hoping to have our voices heard in protesting this war
So no more of our young men and woman would have to die.

Someone was standing on a box in front of us
Asking us all to join him in prayer,
For all our family members and countryman that we had lost
Since we had been fighting over there.

We bowed our heads and followed along together
Praying to the good Lord on high,
And just as we finished…a young girl came forward
Taking her place in front of the crowd…
As a single tear came to her eye.

Then turning her innocent face upward
Eyes looking toward the skies,
She began to sing a beautiful song…a song of peace…
And as we listened…the tears…began to fill our eyes.

Her young voice rang out so sweet and clear
As she sang about the love of her country and being proud,
Of those who’d chosen to fight so she could live a life that’s free
And of how when they came back home…
No more wars should be allowed.

The air became still…as we were all in awe
At what had just happened here,
Then as if a thunderbolt struck…
We were all clapping aloud and beginning to cheer.

Some called out to her to tell us her name
Assuring her that there was nothing to be feared,
But it soon became clear that this wasn’t going to happen
For she had disappeared just as mysteriously as she appeared.

Still, this sweet young girl had left an impression…
With her song of peace...on all of our hearts that day,
Reminding us...to be thankful and proud to be living free
In a country who's only intent...
Is to just make tyranny go away.
