Get Rid Of The Advertisements

STILL

On a morning like no other,
I stepped from my door,
Engulfed there by a silence
Such as never felt before.

A fog that hid the street,
The trees and homes beyond,
Stifled any chirp of birds
From birds that might respond.

No planes flew overhead,
Nor cars drove any street.
If people walked nearby,
They trod on padded feet.

I was left to feel
Nothing moved upon the earth.
The silence may have been
As that prior to birth.

The pathway loomed ahead.
Yet, I deigned to start
For fear the silence would still
The beating of my heart.

Alone in all the world
At that tick of the clock,
I doubted I would hear sound
Created if I walked.

So, with a newfound will,
I stood still.
