Get Rid Of The Advertisements

Independence Day 2019

He washes the dust and the blood off his boots,
Heís still shaking from the ambush, down to his roots.
He has no fear, thatís in the past,
But heís hoping the memory of the attack wonít last.

His buddies, here back at the base,
Know that it was a bad one, by the look on his face.
His uniform is still stained with sweat and blood stains,
And heís hoping for a shower to wash them down the drain.

The enemy didnít expect them to survive,
But he and his team made it out alive.
The enemy sought and boy did they strive,
But his teams training made them thrive.

The screams and the shots still echo in his head,
And heís thankful that it wasnít them instead.
Heís thankful for the shower, but his heart is filled with dread,
Because he knows whatís in store for him in the days ahead.

Heíll relive it again and again,
The shots, the screams, the blood, the stress of his men.
And he knows the fights not over, not for them,
Theyíre US military, theyíll fight until the end.

This is the life of a US soldier,
The enemy learns and gets bolder.
They fight for freedom, if itís hot, or if itís colder,
Freedom isnít free, ask any US soldier.

So as you hear the sound of fireworks popping,
Remember what they represent, for some there's no stopping.
The memories of battles gone by and of men dropping,
Fighting for freedom's cause, off bodies toppling.

Written for my brothers and sisters in the Armed Forces. May we never forget the reason we celebrate Independence Day.
