'Babes on Broadway'

(to second grader Ella)

Hi, babes!
Broadway, yes!
the place, South Shore
E.S, San Pedro, CA
artists of the future.

Pitter,patter,pat!
elfin shoes, garish hats
rainbow costumed kids
prancing to Broadway
musical tunes.

Squeaks, giggles, smiles
gaudy, masked faces
quirky, funny poses;
ma'am cued the first step
to the sound of music.

Hands flaring,
goose stepping
in synchrony, in harmony
to Mary Poppin's 'Somewhere
Over the Rainbow.'

Kids meowing like
'Cats', giggling like
kids of the ' The King and I'
bodies twisting as in the play
in 'Oliver Twist.'

The finale of little
Broadway burst
in colors, hairs swaying
bodies gyrating in step
with rock musical 'Hair'.
