Get Rid Of The Advertisements

My Soldier's Love
The light in his eyes was brighter
Than usual on that day,
When we went to take an autumn stroll
Before he went away.

We walked and talked, hand in hand
For hours along the bay,
The colors on all the trees, so vivid
And on the path before us
Was quite a glorious array.

We found a bench along the water
In a very quiet place,
As we sat and held each other close
His kiss put a gentle blush upon my face.

The guitar he brought was on the ground
I had hoped he’d let it be,
Instead he picked it up and strummed away
Then sang a serenade of love to me.

Tears welled up inside my eyes
My heart swollen in my chest,
He brushed away my tears with his fingertips
And kissed away the rest.

I wanted to be strong for him
Before he went to war,
But to him my tears were a sign of love
That he needed even more.

We stood up to go and took one small step
When I turned to him to say,
“My darling, I love you with all my heart.
If we only had one more day!”

He put his hand underneath my chin
And tipped it toward his face,
“Sweetheart, you know how much I love you
And how I want to make our world a safer place.”

“I promise I’ll come back to you
For you are my inspiration in this quest,
There’ll be no long way home for me
Once I feel I’ve done my very best.”

I hugged him tighter than I ever had
And buried my head into his chest,
“My love I am so proud of you
For wanting to make this sacrifice for all of us.”

He stroked my hair and kissed my mouth
Before we continued on our way,
He filled me up with love’s gentle touch
That I’m still dreaming of today.

My love never made it back to me
But I feel him everywhere I go,
And in every breath I take of freedom
That he promised to fight for not so very long ago.

I see him where the eagles soar
And in golden shores around the world,
My life was enriched by his precious love
For me and for our American flag unfurled.
