WISHES

To be granted just one wish -
Ah, but tis the stuff of dreams.
Besides, a wished-for thing
May, later be beyond your means.

Would one wish for happiness
Through unearned wealth?
Would one wish for long life
Never besieged by ill health?

Would one ask for true
Love and lasting devotion?
Would one ask for a yacht
Upon which to cruise the ocean?

To be granted just one wish
And have complete response accrue.
I would use that wish to wish
All future wishes would come true.
Then Id revoke all wishes past,
And plan my future days anew.
