Get Rid Of The Advertisements

“Contrary be ye by day.
Do not ignore these words I say.
Hear me. Listen closely.
Firebrand and pattern show
We cannot go but slow.
We go, so we call, say to you
To do us right. Relief.
Take us from our grief.
Be not contrary.”

There were only two.
No voice from a third.
Yet, from the two, I
Plainly know what I heard.

Those two took turns
With each line of verse
That felt to my ears
As something well rehearsed.

I had just entered
A house nearly framed
And had begun hearing words
That no body claimed.

I had quite promptly grabbed
A pencil and some wood
To note down their words
As quickly as I could.

For the record, I had heard
Far more than most.
I had seen nothing, but had plainly
Heard the words of the ghosts.

Tell me, if you can,
What the two ghosts asked?
For my mind, it remains
Too great a task.
