Silence

Mother said silence is when the rain stops
and all nature stare in wonder at tiny droplets of dew
crystalizing the colors of the sun.

Mother said silence is when I open my eyes
sweating from a nightmare oh so scary
that I hold my breath still in wakefulness.

Mother said silence is when the tree dies
carrying with it the feel of sitting on rough benches
and the scent of fresh pollen tickling my nose.

Mother said silence is when...

I think it is when I stop typing at three o'clock in the morning
hearing the sudden hiss of computer hard disk turning stop
and then
I feel silence press on me
telling me

ssshhh....
