Family Picnic, (The Bref Double)

Clouds languish warm summer sky

Azure field holding red orb aloft

Worrisome thoughts dissipate in thin air

Lush meadows sprinkled with wildflowers

Parents follow, children’s kite tail

Happily chasing a bright butterfly

Quietly watching from spread picnic cloth

Peacefully sharing long summer hours

Picnic ready, let’s eat they cry

Carefully packed basket soon emptied

The lilt of children’s’ laughter, buzz of dragonfly

Darkening sky ablaze with fireworks filled air

At end of summer, when autumn leaves fly

Treasured memories, warm comfort there

Written for The Form Over Substance Challenge

This form is a Bref Double.

The Bref Double is a French form that looks suspiciously like a
sonnet, but the rhyme scheme is completely different, and it
does not have to be written in Iambic Pentameter, it can be
written in hexameter, tetrameter, or whatever you prefer.

It is written as three quatrains and a couplet, and the rhyme
scheme looks like this: ( the 'x' lines denotes lines where no
rhyme is required)

a/x/b/c
x/a/x/c
a/x/a/b
a/b
