Winter Warmer

Cold hands reach with icy touch
Chill wind swirls with bitter clutch
Long day drags with boredom grey
Dark night cloaks the fleeting day
But I don't mind this daily fight
I'm guided by the warmest light

Morning grim with rain unfolds
Evening makes our bones feel old
Lonely nights our only friends
At times it seems it never ends
But paths we tread that others fear
And my soul finds rest when you are near

Bed of leaves adorn the ground
But buds of spring will soon be found
Fingers frozen soon will thaw
The might of winter's bite no more
And we'll look back on nights so long
And see how hardship made us strong
