Unexpected is what this is
Not what I was looking for at the time
Its thrown me off balance more than once
This thing I'm feeling inside.
I was looking for a friend
Someone to talk to when I needed
Someone to listen as I rambled
I found such a friend in you.
You listened and smiled
At all the right times
Your shoulder I used again and again
Breaking down in front of you.
You know the right words
To brighten my days
When I'm in a bad mood
From you comes a hug.
You added a bright light
To places unlit
You helped take the dark from my life
Giving me reasons to be happy.
You've made me smile
When I wanted to cry
You helped me live
When I wanted to die.
Months have gone by
I think of you and smile
I sleep and of you I dream
Waking and wishing you were here.
Unexpected is the turn this has taken
At a time when I'd closed myself off
You slipped under my defenses
You slipped into my heart.
