Reflections of Yesteryear (Haibun)

My little brother and I always got along.Singing and dancing, just having fun. Nothing could change it. We were like soulmates. Our hearts beat as one.
~ ~ ~
Running and playing
teasing, always without end
my brother and I
~ ~ ~
That cold night in November. My blood ran cold. He was gone. Nothing would be the same. My world had been crumbled.
~ ~ ~
Still feeling the pain
days are long and meaningless
my heart is broken
~ ~ ~
Remembering so well. His smile so bright. His humor with joy. His loving touch. My best friend, now gone.
~ ~ ~
The stars shining bright
with a moonglow up above
as if he were there
~ ~ ~
Oh yes, I feel him near. He hasn't gone. With me still, I know he is. Someday we will meet again. When I take my journey home.
~ ~ ~
His arms opened wide
guiding me through Heaven's door
with that boyish grin

The Haibun

Haibun is a combination of prose strong in imagery and at least
one haiku (5,7,5 syllables). The prose in a haibun is trimmed to
its essence just as a haiku is composed of few words chosen for
their particular meaning. A haibun relates a journey, whether
the travels are a physical exploration of the world or an
internal journey of discovery. Often haibun contain a revelation
or epiphany obtained through experience. The prose can reflect
fragmented thoughts or complete sentences, but the sentences are
tight with all the words serving a purpose. It is important to
note that a haibun is not a short story.
