A Dog’s Birthday

Pressure cooker hums
Broiled chicken’s aroma
Saturates morning air
Dogs sniff around
Expecting deliciously
To bite on tender meat

I tap their heads lightly
Assuring them with care
That lunch will be special
To celebrate Sonny’s birthday
Cat mingles with them
Waiting for his share.
