Van Gogh's Whore

'When I said I wanted your ear
I didn't mean in this way.'

Did I run in fear?
what did I say?

'Vinny-I just wanted you to listen'
You think that a man with such doubled vision
with Sunbursts for sunflowers
and skies that twist and swirl
Would understand metaphor
from such a 'common' girl

And he had given me his ear-
to show he held me most dear.

Was it in a box-tied neatly with a bow?
Or was it handed to me so plain?
These things you will never know.

Because I am just a footnote in the story.

And footnotes have no name-
They have no paths to glory.

And for that, what's more
It doesn't matter, that I'm a whore.

But know this, by far
I DID ignite
The brightest star,
in the Starry Night.
